As winter embraces us with its chill (and boy has it been unusually chilly) the world responds with a blend of innovation and nostalgia. This season 5 key trends are taking center stage. Leopard prints which is our favorite, denim on denim, hobo chic aesthetics, cozy faux fur and the color green in hues of pistachio and seafoam. Let’s delve into each trend exploring their history, significance and how to incorporate each one into your winter wardrobe.
1. The Timeless Wild Card (Leopard Prints)
Leopard print has long been associated with luxury and sophistication. It gained popularity in the 1920's, often seen in the wardrobes of the Hollywood Superstars like May West, and later, icons such as Marilyn Monroe. The print became a symbol of opulence, often used in evening wear and accessories. Over the decades it has evolved from high-fashion run ways to street style, embodying a bold attitude and big confidence. Don’t be shy! This winter GO AHEAD, embrace leopard prints in various forms such as coats, jeans, accessories, even baby wear, scarves, statement shoes/boots. For some cool ideas pair a leopard print coat with simple black high neck top with a pair of straight leg jeans slightly distressed for an effortless chic clean look. For a bolder approach, layer with contrasting patterns or vibrant colors to create visual interest. Check out our favorite style in pic below.
2. The Double Trouble Trend (Denim On Denim)
The denim -on-denim trend, surprisingly to us often referred to as the "Canadian Tuxedo," traces back to the 1950's, gaining momentum in the 1970's. (we think some of the coolest denim outfits were made in that era) Denim is just one of those fashion staples that will never dye! lol. Do you remember the time when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake made the famous denim fashion statement on the red carpet at the 2001 American Music Awards? Do you remember when Jay Z and Beyonce' made their fashion statement on MTV's TRL in 2002? We like to call them both "DENIM LOVE." Today denim is such a BIG thing. It's so versatile and can be one of the most creative fashion pieces to work with in your wardrobe. This trend is celebrated for its versatility and timeless appeal, and as you know one of our FAVORITES is THE DENIM! Go ahead and try to look in ways you haven't or for the first time in denim. Mix and match different shades of denim, experiment with different textures and layer in ways like you've never done before. The photo below is one of many styles we like when it comes to denim.
3. So Fresh So Clean (The Color Green)
Green has always been the color associated with nature and renewal. So of course this is perfect to start off the new year! The green that's catching our eyes on the runways are the sea-foam hues kind of a pastel or lighter tones of green and we also love the pistachios shades of green, a more medium green shade closer to olive tones which is more of a balance between vibrant and more muted tones. It's appeal grew in then 1970's with the rise of earthy palettes in fashion, driven by a growing consciousness for environmental sustainability.
This winter incorporate shades of green into your wardrobe through sweaters, tailored coats which are great and can be very stylish, beanies, gloves, stylish boots. Pair with earthy browns, black, or tans for a more grounded look or contrast it with brighter shades for a more fresh twist. YOU decide! Check out $kye in her favorite green stylish boots.
4. Effortless Bohemian Flare (Hobo Chic)
Hobo Chic draws inspiration from the carefree nomadic lifestyle of travelers and artists especially prominent in the 1960's and 1970's. The trend blends bohemian elements with urban influences characterized by slouchy silhouettes and and eclectic accessories reflecting an relaxed artistic vibe.
To channel Hobo chic this winter opt for flowy maxi dresses layered with over-sized cardigans and capes. Choose wide-leg trousers paired with over-sized sweaters and don't shy away from mixing textures. Accessorize with fringes, over-sized bags, layered jewelry, (pile it on) floppy and large brim hats to complete the look. Peep the look ideas we love below.
5. Luxe and Eco-Friendly (Faux Fur)
False fur emerged as a fashionable alternative to real fur in the mid 20th century, gaining traction in the 1960's when animal rights movements began advocating against fur use, but the fashion industry has come a long way and highly advanced the levels of faux furs you can add to your wardrobe now. Today faux fur enthusiasts enjoy the luxurious feel of fur while promoting ethical choices in clothing.
This season invest in a statement faux fur coat or jacket to elevate any outfit. Layer it over a sleek top and leather pants for an evening out or drape it over a casual dress for added warmth and flair. Choose colorful faux furs or classic neutrals that can easily transition between day and night. One our favorite faux furs worn by $kye for @fashionablyloudnyc_
